More Information

What is FTTP?

All types of nbn® network connections that utilise a physical line running to the premises are considered Fixed Line connections. An nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connection is used in circumstances where a fibre optic line will be run from the nearest available fibre node, directly to your premises.

What is the Fibre Connect initiative?

The Fibre Connect initiative from nbn® aims improve internet connectivity across Australia by rolling out high-speed fibre optic broadband technology. The program aims to connect more homes and businesses to the National Broadband Network (nbn®) using fibre optic cables, which can deliver faster and more reliable internet speeds compared to traditional copper-based networks.

Under the Fibre Connect program, nbn® will install fibre optic cables directly to homes and businesses in certain areas, replacing the existing copper-based network infrastructure. This will provide faster internet speeds and more consistent performance, particularly for data-intensive applications such as streaming video, online gaming, and video conferencing.

How are eligible locations chosen?

The Fibre Connect program is being rolled out gradually across the country, with priority given to areas where there is a high demand for faster internet speeds and where the existing network infrastructure is outdated or unable to meet the needs of users. Other factors include:

  • Demand – Metropolitan and regional locations where nbn anticipates strong demand  for higher wholesale speed plans.
  • Workforce – nbn’s established construction and delivery partners, and their respective workforces, are ready to work here having recently completed our network’s initial build.
  • Cost-effectiveness – nbn can deploy here with speed and agility, in a way that their investment is most likely to spread and multiply economic activity across the nation.

nbn’s overall aim is to extend fibre to an additional 3.5 million homes and businesses by the end of 2023.

Will it cost anything to upgrade?

Eligible customers will need to place an order through Field Solutions to upgrade to FTTP.
